Brunch at Mohawk Bend

Huevos Divorciados from Mohawk Bend on Sunset blvd.

I consider myself to be a person who is easily pleased and I don't see that as a bad thing. The little things in life make me the happiest.. whether it's finding simplistic art on the side of the street, hearing someone's laughter, or eating your favorite dish at brunch with a few people who I think expand my mind and help me grow into the person I am meant to be.

One of the things that makes me the happiest is when there is food involved and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Food is not only meant to nourish us, but it's also meant to comfort us. Think of what your favorite dish is and what it actually does to/for you. Does it bring you back to a certain memory of when you were a child? Does it make you feel something nothing else can ever make you feel? I may be going way too into it.. but when I think of food I also think of how it can effect our mood, make us happier, and even bring people together.

Coffee and a Bloody Mary with garlic infused vodka.

Enter: brunch.

Brunch is one of my favorite activities. Not only because I enjoy a cocktail before 12pm, but because I get together with a few of my girls and talk about everything that is going on in all of our lives. Not only do we get to catch up, but we also get to have amazing food during the process.

We have gone to multiple places since this weekly rendezvous was established but we always go back to the same place: Mohawk Bend. Mainly because my comfort food is on their breakfast menu: Huevos Divorciados. A fancier way of saying chilaquiles. If you have gained the interest in finding the GREATEST chilaquiles L.A. has to offer, look no further because you just found it.

Now, if you don't know what chilaquiles are then you need to leave. Lol just kidding. But seriously.. chilaquiles is a Mexican dish usually served during breakfast but I would honestly eat this for lunch or dinner as well. They're typically just tortilla chips drenched in a delicious salsa then doctored up with a bunch of traditional Mexican toppings: beans, red or green sauce, cilantro, scrambled eggs, etc.

But Mohawk Bend take it to the next level! They decided to not use one but both of the sauces! They made the genius decision of not scrambling the eggs and just put 3 perfectly cooked over easy eggs. Then they give you the choice of having as is or adding short rib or sorizo. Of course you choose soyrizo! I can honestly say that I could eat this dish every day for the rest of my life. It gives me all the feels. And those feels are good!

Fruit bowl with strawberries, pears, and blood oranges.
The greatest Bloody Mary. EVER.

To go perfectly with my Huevos Divorciados is the greatest bloody mary I have ever had. And yes, the only reason why I believe it to be the best is because of the garlic infused vodka they offer in place of just regular old vodka. I think that's a good enough explanation of why I feel this way. Not only is a bloody mary the ideal hangover cure, but it is also a meal in a glass because of the tomato juice and all the other thick sauces they incorporate inside it. Horseradish is definitely a strong component in this cocktail but it isn't too overpowering. It's just enough to make the other flavors stand out as well.

Now just so we're clear, the chilaquiles from Mohawk Bend isn't the only noteworthy thing on their menu. It ranges from Elvish French Toast, Tofu Scrambles, or even a Spinach and Feta Frittata. Mohawk Bend has man variations. Oh, and did I tell you this place is mainly vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free?! They do have substitutions or dishes that help tame the carnivore in some of us, but it is a little more satisfying knowing you are eating a healthier dishes. Those meals are for another blog post know because you and I both know I will be going back. It is, after all, my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles.
